Mouth Guards, Night Guards
Our office has obtained extra education on guards for clenching and grinding. We’ll help you stop clenching and grinding for healthier teeth, gums, jaw and an improved quality of life.
Most people who grind their teeth chronically do so while sleeping, without even noticing they’re doing it. While occasional teeth grinding shouldn’t be a concern, anyone who experiences more frequent teeth grinding should consider seeking treatment. Habitual teeth grinding (also known as bruxism) exerts excessive force on the teeth and jaw joints. This causes wear and tear on the tooth enamel, the muscles and the joints in your jaw. Bruxism can lead to severe health problems, like broken and damaged teeth, headaches, neck and jaw pain.
The following reasons may put you at higher risk of grinding your teeth at night:
- Stress and Anxiety
- Snoring and Sleep Apnea
- Caffeine
- Cigarette Smoking
- Alcohol Consumption
- Medications
- Parkinson’s Disease
The problem with teeth grinding and clenching is that you may not know you’re doing it. If you experience any of the following symptoms, chances are you frequently grind you’re teeth unconsciously.
- Worn or Chipped Teeth
- TMJ Pain in the Jaw, Face, or Neck
- Headaches
- Earaches
- Sore Gums and Teeth
- Trouble Sleeping
