Dr. Richard Carr, Dentist + Practice Owner
I am the practicing General Dentist and owner of Liberty Village Dental. I was born and raised in Toronto and moved to London where I attended The University of Western Ontario and completed my undergraduate education. After receiving my Honours Bachelor of Science degree, I attended The University of Detroit Mercy of Dental Medicine where I earned my Doctor of Medicine degree.
I have practiced dentistry in the Toronto area for the past 25 years and pride myself not only on my skills as a dentist, but honesty and compassion. I aim to treat every patient as I would treat my closest family members. I consider myself a dentist with a conservative mindset and will only advise procedures that are in the patient’s best interest. I create a friendly and comfortable atmosphere and have been told that my music selection makes coming to the dentist fun.
In my free time, I enjoy whipping up new recipes in the kitchen or dining out at the latest trendy restaurants. My hobbies include bike riding, swimming or going for outdoor hikes with my family. If I am not watching the BNN channel, then the next best thing would be sports. I am a true Toronto Maple Leaf’s fan.

Shelby Abraham, Dental Hygienist
Hey there! I’m Shelby, and I’ve been a dental hygienist for 7 years. I have a genuine passion for dentistry and helping people, and dental hygienists are medical professionals who help you put your money where your mouth is!
I’m thrilled to be a part of Liberty Village Dental – it’s a fun place to be and the environment fully embodies the ambiance of its amazing staff and its exciting community members. I love learning about my patients and their concerns in order to provide the best patient-centered care possible. To keep my patients well-informed, I continuously learn and upgrade my own skills and knowledge through coursework and training, and this journey helps me provide you with the best options and treatment procedures available. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like, as communication is key to a successful appointment.
On a lighter note, I love hearing about anything and everything you have going on in your life during our time together. I can talk anything from hoops to hairdos, or we can work in silence too if that’s what you prefer. I want to make your next dental visit comfortable, educational, and fun, while helping you achieve your oral health goals at the same time. If I hassle you over your brushing technique or flossing frequency, please understand I’m not trying to mother you, I just care as much as she does!
As for myself, when I am not thinking about teeth, I keep active spending time with my beloved fur baby examining her teeth, traveling the world observing other people and their own teeth, and trying out different cuisines so I have more reason to brush my own teeth…teeth, Teeth, TEETH!
Looking forward to our next appointment!

Maria Luisa Fernandez, Dental Assistant
I was a former Radiographer in Dubai and worked for the Ministry of Health for so many years. Upon coming to Toronto, I then worked as an Administrative Assistant at St. Michael Hospital in the department of general surgery. It was this experience that made me want to get more involved on a patient level and decided to go back to school.
I obtained my diploma in Intra Oral Dental Assisting at the National Academy Health Science and Business in Toronto in 2016. After graduation, I wrote my National Dental Board exam and passed and became an active member of the Ontario Dental Assistant Association. I have worked in many different dental clinics in Toronto which has allowed me to gain experience in all areas of dentistry.
I joined the team at Liberty Village Dental in July 2020. My goal as a Dental Assistant is to give the upmost care while making every patient feel comfortable when in the office. I believe that a smile is the prettiest thing you will wear.
