Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, hits everyone at some point in their life. It is not a dangerous disease if it gets treated properly and promptly. However, it’s tricky because in its early stages you might not even know that you have it, only a dental professional will be able to recognize it.
If you happen to notice any of the following symptoms, pay us a visit at Liberty Village Dental, right away, to control the disease while it’s still in its early stages.
- Red, swollen gums
- Tender, bleeding gums
- Painful chewing
- Sensitive teeth
- Constant bad breath

Gum Disease Treatment Toronto
Gum disease is a progressive disease that is originally caused by tartar and bacterial build-up on your teeth and under your gum line, which causes the surrounding gum tissue to be inflamed. As time goes by, more tartar forms on and around your teeth, causing the inflammation to worsen and the disease to progress.
In its early stages, gum disease is called Gingivitis, and is easily controlled and treated by a good professional dental cleaning from our highly skilled and experienced dental hygienists. If left untreated, gingivitis progresses to the more advanced level of gum disease, called Periodontitis. At this stage, the inflammation is harder to control and the hygienist has to perform a more vigorous cleaning routine, which includes scaling and root planning.
To avoid having gum disease, or at least to minimize the risk of getting it, you need to maintain great oral hygiene habits at home and commit to your professional cleaning sessions at our Toronto dental office every six months.
We’re always available to provide you with quality dental care that fits your dental needs and your lifestyle. For dental questions, concerns or dental emergencies, call us at 416-533-3323 or book an appointment today.
